Former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the Delta North Senatorial District following his victory in the party’s direct primaries conducted across the nine local government areas in the district.
Okowa secured a total of 113,309 votes to defeat the incumbent senator, Ned Nwoko, who polled 2,612 votes. With this outcome, Okowa will represent the APC in the Delta North Senatorial election in 2027.
It will be recalled that Okowa previously served as Senator representing Delta North in the National Assembly from 2011 to 2015 before going on to serve as Governor of Delta State from 2015 to 2023.
Speaking after the announcement of the results, Okowa expressed gratitude to the people of Delta North for their overwhelming support and impressive turnout during the primaries. He also pledged to provide effective and people-oriented representation if elected.
“I am delighted to have emerged as your candidate to represent Delta North in the Senate in 2027. I sincerely appreciate your support, trust, and show of love throughout this process,” he said.
“I remain committed to standing with the people at all times and ensuring that their voices and needs are adequately represented. I will continue to maintain close contact with the people because leadership is about service, accessibility, and responsibility.”
