Aisha Yesufu Fires Back at Wike Over Remarks on FCT Senate Primary Defeat

Aisha Yesufu responded to remarks attributed to Nyesom Wike regarding her defeat in the FCT senatorial primary election.

Human rights activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has reacted strongly to comments allegedly made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, concerning her unsuccessful attempt to secure a senatorial ticket in the Federal Capital Territory.

Reports indicate that Wike, while speaking at an event in Rivers State on Saturday, questioned Yesufu’s political strength following her defeat in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial primary.

The minister was quoted as saying that practical politics extends beyond media visibility and suggested that the activist's inability to secure a party ticket reflected the realities of electoral politics.

Responding in a post on her X account, Yesufu challenged Wike to mention her directly rather than making indirect references.

She also revisited the 2022 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary, in which Wike contested but did not secure the party’s presidential ticket.

According to Yesufu, the minister was not in a position to question her political experience, arguing that he had also faced setbacks in his own political ambitions.

The activist further alleged that Wike sought to emerge as a vice-presidential candidate after the primary election but was ultimately not selected.

She accused him of subsequently working against the PDP following the outcome of the party’s internal contest.

Yesufu maintained that she would reserve further comments until Wike directly addressed her by name, insisting that she was prepared to respond fully if he chose to do so.

The exchange is the latest in a series of public disagreements involving prominent political figures ahead of the build-up to the 2027 general elections, as political realignments and debates over party structures continue to generate public attention.
