Akpabio Says Television Reports Often Misrepresent His Statements

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has explained why he no longer follows television broadcasts, saying his public statements are often reported inaccurately or taken out of context.

He made the remarks on Friday while speaking at the inauguration of newly completed access roads in Karsana, Abuja. According to him, recent media reports misrepresented comments he made about infrastructure projects being executed under President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Akpabio maintained that his previous remarks were specifically about development projects within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and not a general assessment of projects across the country.

He noted that the FCT had witnessed an unprecedented number of project inaugurations under President Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. According to him, about 31 projects have already been commissioned as part of activities marking the administration's third anniversary.

The Senate President also disclosed that he had been informed that an additional 19 major projects are expected to be completed and inaugurated before the commencement of election activities next year.

He appealed to members of the public and the media to accurately represent his statements rather than attributing comments to him that he did not make.

Although his earlier remarks focused on the FCT, Akpabio argued that the current administration is implementing significant infrastructure projects across Nigeria. He pointed to the ongoing Badagry–Sokoto highway, describing it as a transformative project that includes dozens of dams expected to boost agricultural production, particularly in northern Nigeria.

He also highlighted the ongoing coastal highway project, describing it as a long-awaited development that many people in the Niger Delta had hoped to see for decades.

Akpabio further praised the completion of a building at the headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), formerly known as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

He said the project had remained unfinished for many years before being completed under the Tinubu administration, adding that the quality of work reflects the government's commitment to completing both new and inherited projects.

The Senate President also commended the pace of development in Abuja's satellite communities, saying areas that previously received little attention are now benefiting from improved infrastructure.

Using Karsana as an example, he said the community has experienced rapid transformation through ongoing road construction and other development projects.

He added that while criticism is easy, visible projects across the FCT demonstrate that governance is making a tangible impact on residents.
