At the launch of My Life of Duty and Allegiance, the autobiography of former Military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon held in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima recounted how he faced allegations of plotting against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu shortly after the administration assumed office in 2023.

Speaking during the event, Shettima revealed that only three months after they were sworn into office, rumours began circulating within political circles alleging that he was planning to harm the President and take over power.

According to the Vice President, President Tinubu later invited him for a private discussion and asked whether there was any truth to the claims being circulated.

Shettima said he immediately dismissed the allegations and urged the President not to give attention to the rumours, describing them as baseless and harmful.

He explained that the speculation reportedly stemmed from a gesture he made before the 2023 presidential election when he gifted President Tinubu some clothing items.

According to him, some individuals allegedly advised the President against wearing the clothes, claiming that the gift was part of a supposed plan to harm him. However, Tinubu reportedly ignored the warnings and maintained confidence in his running mate.

Shettima further stated that political divisions and internal rivalries within the political class may have contributed to the spread of the rumours.

The Vice President used the occasion to call for greater unity, peace, and cooperation among Nigerians, stressing that national development can only thrive in an atmosphere of trust and togetherness.

He noted that unity remains essential for the growth and stability of a diverse country like Nigeria.
