Maxence Lacroix Joins Chelsea in £52 Million Move

Chelsea Complete £52m Signing of Maxence Lacroix From Crystal Palace

Chelsea have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of France international Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace in a deal valued at £52 million.

The 26-year-old centre-back has signed a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032 and is expected to join Xabi Alonso's squad ahead of the start of the 2026/27 season.

Lacroix becomes Chelsea's third acquisition of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Morgan Rogers and Marco Palestra. The club has also completed previously agreed transfers involving Geovany Quenda and Emmanuel Emegha.

Announcing the move, Chelsea described Lacroix as one of Europe's standout central defenders, praising his aerial strength, pace and commanding presence in defence.

The French defender joins the Blues after two impressive seasons with Crystal Palace, where he made 98 appearances following his move from German side Wolfsburg in 2024.

During his time at Selhurst Park, Lacroix established himself as a key figure in Oliver Glasner's team and featured in 55 matches across all competitions last season.

He also played an important role during one of the most successful periods in Crystal Palace's history, helping the club secure the UEFA Conference League, FA Cup and Community Shield.

Before moving to England, Lacroix developed through the youth ranks at Sochaux, making 28 senior appearances before joining Wolfsburg in 2020. He went on to play 130 matches for the Bundesliga side before returning to France through his international career and eventually earning a move to Chelsea.

His consistent performances in domestic and European competitions earned him his first senior call-up to the French national team earlier this year. Since making his debut, Lacroix has collected seven international caps and represented France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he featured in three matches as Les Bleus finished fourth.

Chelsea will hope the experienced defender strengthens their backline as the club prepares to compete for major honours in the new season under Alonso's leadership.
