Death Toll Rises to Nine After Fresh Attack in Southern Kaduna

At least nine residents have lost their lives and 11 others sustained injuries following a deadly attack by suspected terrorists on Unguwar Magaji community in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

According to Naija News, The assault, which occurred late Tuesday night, has once again highlighted the persistent security challenges facing communities in Southern Kaduna.

The spokesperson of the Irigwe Youth Movement, Joseph Yonkpa, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the death toll increased after search and recovery teams discovered additional victims in the aftermath of the attack.

According to Yonkpa, initial reports underestimated the scale of the tragedy, but subsequent recovery efforts led to the discovery of seven more bodies, bringing the total number of fatalities to nine.

Residents said heavily armed attackers invaded the community and opened fire on villagers, leaving several people dead while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The victims who lost their lives were identified as Jerry Doctor, Danlami Magani, Sunday Chibi, Rita Abdullahi, Sunday Elkan, Esther Kefas, Happy Friday, Moses Daddy, and Daddy Ibrahim.

Those injured during the attack include Halla Monday, Mary Yohanna, Jummai John, Charity Danjuma, Faith Yakubu, Omi Yakubu, Ali Sandiye, Asabe Victor, Srarina Simon, Talatu Sunday, and ThankGod Danladi.

Community sources said survivors were rushed for medical treatment while residents struggled to come to terms with the devastating loss.

The latest incident has plunged the community into mourning, with many families grieving the deaths of loved ones and expressing fears over the continued threat posed by armed groups operating in the region.

Residents lamented what they described as a recurring pattern of attacks on vulnerable communities in Southern Kaduna, stressing that many people now live under constant fear of violence.

Community leaders and concerned residents have called on security agencies to strengthen their presence in affected areas and take decisive action to prevent further attacks.

They also appealed to government authorities, civil society organizations, and the media to pay greater attention to the security and humanitarian challenges confronting communities repeatedly targeted by armed groups.

The attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in several parts of Kaduna State, where local communities continue to seek lasting solutions to persistent violence and displacement.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not released an official statement regarding the incident.
