Egypt Reaffirms Commitment to Stronger Partnership With Nigeria

Egypt has reiterated its commitment to working closely with Nigeria to promote African-led solutions to the continent's challenges and strengthen cooperation in pursuit of shared development goals.

The pledge was made by Egypt's Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohammed Fouad, during an event in Abuja marking the 74th anniversary of Egypt's July 23, 1952 Revolution.

Speaking at the celebration, the ambassador described the revolution as a historic milestone that laid the foundation for Egypt's independence, national pride and long-term development. He said its legacy continues to shape the country's commitment to sovereignty and progress.

Fouad noted that Egypt and Nigeria occupy strategic positions in African diplomacy and have consistently collaborated to advance continental unity, defend sovereignty and promote multilateral engagement on issues affecting Africa.

According to him, both nations have continued to coordinate their positions within regional and international organisations, helping to strengthen Africa's voice on matters such as peacekeeping, development financing, climate action and broader global reforms.

The ambassador also highlighted the enduring relationship between the two countries, noting that diplomatic ties established shortly after Nigeria gained independence have continued to flourish over the past 65 years.

He revealed that more than 10,000 Nigerian students are currently enrolled in Egyptian universities, describing educational exchanges as an important bridge that has deepened people-to-people relations while supporting the development of future leaders.

Fouad added that expanding cooperation in education, tourism and commerce has further strengthened bilateral ties and created opportunities for increased collaboration between both countries.

He stressed that, amid current global challenges, Egypt and Nigeria must continue to deepen their partnership to effectively address common economic, political and security concerns.

Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, congratulated Egypt on the anniversary and reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

She described both countries as leading African economies with enormous potential for greater collaboration in investment, innovation and sustainable development.

According to the minister, Nigeria intends to explore new opportunities that align with the country's Renewed Hope Agenda and Egypt's national development strategy, while leveraging the strengths of their youthful populations to promote prosperity, stability and security across the continent.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu also praised the long-standing diplomatic cooperation between the two nations, noting their continued collaboration on regional peace, conflict prevention, reform of United Nations institutions, implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the peaceful resolution of international disputes.

She said the partnership between Nigeria and Egypt remains an important driver of Africa's collective progress and future development.
