The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has described Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s victory in the Ekiti State governorship election as a strong affirmation of public confidence in both the ruling party and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Yilwatda also pointed to the APC’s performance in recent bye-elections across the country, saying the results reflected continued support for the party’s governance philosophy despite prevailing economic challenges.
In a statement issued through his Special Adviser, Abimbola Tooki, the APC chairman said Nigerians were demonstrating an ability to distinguish between the temporary hardships associated with ongoing reforms and the long-term benefits expected from economic restructuring and institutional development.
According to him, the outcomes of the elections indicate that citizens recognize efforts aimed at strengthening governance, expanding infrastructure, and improving public service delivery.
“The overwhelming victory recorded by our great party in Ekiti State and our remarkable success in the bye-elections across the country represent a powerful endorsement of the APC’s governance philosophy,” Yilwatda stated.
“These results affirm that Nigerians appreciate leadership that prioritises development, accountability, stability and the welfare of the people.”
Governor Oyebanji was declared winner of the Ekiti governorship election after securing victory across a majority of polling areas in the state.
The APC also recorded wins in five of the six bye-elections conducted in various parts of the country, further boosting the party’s confidence ahead of future electoral contests.
Yilwatda credited Oyebanji’s success to what he described as effective leadership, prudent management of resources, and a commitment to inclusive governance.
He argued that the election outcome showed that voters continue to reward leaders who focus on delivering measurable development projects and tangible improvements in citizens’ lives.
“The people of Ekiti State have once again demonstrated that performance remains the most potent campaign message in democratic politics,” he said.
He further noted that the Ekiti election has become an important example for the APC, reinforcing the argument that good governance remains politically rewarding even during periods of economic transition.
According to him, investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, security, and social welfare have contributed significantly to the administration’s popularity.
“The Ekiti election has become a national reference point. It confirms that when governments deliver tangible results, citizens respond with renewed trust and overwhelming electoral support,” he added.
Yilwatda maintained that the result sends a clear signal that governance and service delivery are more effective tools for earning public support than political rhetoric.
He also praised the Oyebanji administration for maintaining political stability while pursuing developmental goals across the state.
The APC chairman highlighted initiatives in road construction, rural development, healthcare services, agriculture, workers’ welfare, and efforts to improve the business environment as key achievements of the state government.
According to him, Ekiti has emerged as one of the clearest examples of the APC’s commitment to people-focused governance and sustainable development.
Yilwatda further linked the election outcome to the broader reform agenda of President Tinubu, arguing that ongoing economic and institutional reforms are laying the foundation for long-term national growth, resilience, and competitiveness.
He expressed confidence that the reforms would continue to yield positive results and strengthen public trust in the APC’s leadership at both the state and federal levels.
