Emeka Ike reportedly protested at the electoral commission's office, expressing dissatisfaction with the outcome of the NDC primary election and alleging irregularities in the process.
A mild protest was recorded at the Abuja office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday as Nollywood actor and House of Representatives aspirant, Emeka Ike, challenged the outcome of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) primary election for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) federal constituency seat.
The actor, who recently declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives, arrived at the commission's office to register his grievances over what he described as irregularities during the party's primary election.
Reports indicate that Ike was unsuccessful in the primary contest, a development that reportedly prompted his protest.
Addressing officials during the demonstration, the actor questioned the conduct of the electoral process and expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which the exercise was carried out.
He maintained that, as an aspirant and a Nigerian citizen, he had the right to demand transparency and accountability in the conduct of party primaries.
Ike also insisted that he would not remain silent over issues he believed affected the credibility of the electoral process, warning that he intended to pursue the matter until his concerns were adequately addressed.
The actor further stated that he preferred direct engagement with relevant institutions rather than relying solely on social media platforms to air his grievances.
As of the time of filing this report, neither INEC nor the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress had issued an official response to the allegations raised by the actor.
The incident adds to growing concerns among political stakeholders regarding the conduct of party primaries ahead of preparations for future elections.
