Fear Grips Adamawa Communities After Militant Threat of Bloodshed

Fresh concerns have emerged over the security situation in Adamawa State after a suspected militant, claiming to speak on behalf of the Chobo ethnic group, threatened attacks against Bachama-speaking communities in Lamurde Local Government Area.

The threat was contained in a video that has been widely circulated on social media, where the individual allegedly announced plans for what he described as a new phase of operations targeting rival communities.

According to reports, the man claimed that Chobo fighters had adopted a “night mode operation,” suggesting that attacks would be carried out under the cover of darkness.

In the video, the suspected militia leader reportedly warned of widespread violence, raising fears of a possible escalation in the already fragile security situation within the area.

He was quoted as saying that communities could witness further bloodshed and destruction if the crisis remains unresolved.

The individual also identified himself as a pastor and compared the Chobo ethnic group to Israel, claiming that despite its size, the group would prevail over its opponents.

The development comes against the backdrop of a prolonged communal dispute between Bachama and Chobo communities in Lamurde Local Government Area.

The conflict, largely linked to land ownership and communal grievances, has resulted in deaths, injuries, displacement of residents, and destruction of property over the past year.

Although government authorities, traditional leaders, and security agencies have facilitated several peace initiatives aimed at ending hostilities, tensions have continued to resurface periodically.

In the viral video, the suspected militant also levelled allegations against Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, accusing her of supporting Bachama fighters and contributing to the crisis.

However, the claims were made without any supporting evidence and had not been independently verified at the time of filing this report.

There has also been no official response from the deputy governor regarding the allegations.

Security analysts warn that inflammatory statements and threats of violence could further complicate efforts to restore peace in the affected communities.

They have called on security agencies to closely monitor developments and take proactive measures to prevent any escalation of the conflict.

Residents of the area have also appealed for increased security presence and urgent intervention by government authorities to prevent further loss of lives and property.

As concerns grow over the potential for renewed violence, stakeholders continue to emphasize the need for dialogue, reconciliation, and sustained peace-building efforts among the affected communities.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the viral video, but observers say swift action will be necessary to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
