The family of former Minister of Power and leading governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her twin sons by unidentified gunmen in Ibadan.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued by Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, who said the victims were kidnapped in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
According to the statement, Mrs. John-Paul was abducted at about 7:30 a.m. while driving her children to school. The gunmen reportedly seized both the 43-year-old mother and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, during the attack.
The family described the incident as distressing and appealed to the public to remain calm while security agencies carry out rescue operations.
Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Before her retirement last year, she reportedly worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian.
Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children while making plans to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who had earlier moved to the United States.
The family confirmed that relevant security and law enforcement agencies were immediately notified after the incident and that investigations commenced without delay.
According to the statement, security operatives have already begun efforts to locate the victims and bring those responsible for the abduction to justice.
Adelabu and other family members expressed confidence in the ability of security agencies to secure the safe release of Mrs. John-Paul and her children.
The family also urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could undermine ongoing rescue operations and appealed for prayers and support during the difficult period.
They further called on anyone with useful information that could assist investigators to promptly share it with the appropriate security authorities.
The family assured that it would continue to cooperate fully with security agencies and provide updates as developments unfold.
