The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from a viral list circulating on social media and purportedly containing the names of the party's candidates for Imo, Abia, and Anambra States.

The party described the document as fake, misleading, and unauthorized, urging members and supporters to disregard it entirely.

In a statement issued on Friday, the National Secretary of the NDC, Barrister Ikenna Enekweizu, clarified that the purported candidate list did not originate from the party's national headquarters.

According to him, the party has already completed the process of submitting its official list of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through the legally approved channels provided under the Electoral Act.

Enekweizu emphasized that the names currently circulating online do not represent the party's officially recognized candidates and should not be treated as authentic.

He alleged that the publication was the handiwork of individuals seeking to create confusion, distract party members, and undermine the party's preparations for upcoming elections.

"The general public, especially members of the NDC in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other affected states, are hereby urged to disregard the lists of candidates widely circulating on social media as the authentic lists of our party's candidates from the aforementioned states. The said lists are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters," the statement read.

The party secretary further stated that investigations are underway to determine the source of the alleged misinformation and identify those responsible for circulating the document.

He described the development as a deliberate attempt to sow discord within the party and create unnecessary distractions at a crucial period.

According to Enekweizu, the NDC remains focused on its political objectives and will not allow what he termed "desperate attempts" to derail its activities.

He reassured party members that the leadership remains committed to transparency, internal unity, and compliance with electoral regulations.

The NDC also reiterated its commitment to building a strong political platform capable of addressing Nigeria's challenges and providing an alternative vision for governance.

The statement urged supporters to rely only on official communications from the party regarding candidate nominations and other electoral matters.

Party officials expressed confidence that members would remain united despite efforts by external actors to generate confusion through the circulation of unverified information.

The NDC concluded by calling on members across the affected states to remain calm, focused, and supportive of the party's ongoing preparations for future elections.
