The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that three people lost their lives following the derailment of the Warri-Itakpe train service in Agbor, Delta State. According to the corporation, the incident occurred on Monday, June 8, 2026, when four coaches of the train veered off the tracks, prompting an immediate emergency response.

In a statement issued after the accident, NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, described the development as a serious rail incident and assured the public that rescue efforts were swiftly activated.

"The Nigerian Railway Corporation has confirmed a major accident involving the Warri-Itakpe Train Service corridor in Agbor, Delta State," the statement said.

Opeifa disclosed that emergency responders, railway officials, and other relevant agencies were mobilized to the scene to manage the situation and assist affected passengers.

He noted that all passengers aboard the train have been accounted for following the rescue operation. However, the corporation confirmed that three fatalities were recorded as a result of the derailment. While investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident, the NRC said authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the incident and provide support to passengers and families affected by the tragedy.

The corporation extended its condolences to the families of the deceased, stating that its thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones during this difficult period.
