Ochei’s Comments Cannot Diminish Okowa’s Political Strength in Delta North – Onyeagbor

A political stakeholder in Delta State, Mrs. Glory Onyeagbor, has dismissed claims that former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei, could pose a political challenge to former Governor and Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reacting to comments allegedly made by Ochei concerning Okowa's political standing in Delta North, Onyeagbor described the remarks as misleading and an unsuccessful attempt to regain political relevance.

According to her, Senator Okowa remains one of the most influential political figures in Delta State and continues to enjoy widespread support across Delta North due to his track record in public service and leadership.

She argued that attempts to portray the former governor as politically vulnerable are disconnected from the realities on the ground, noting that many stakeholders across the senatorial district still regard him as a trusted leader capable of providing effective representation at the national level.

Onyeagbor also faulted claims allegedly made by Ochei regarding Okowa's political background and relationships with other political actors, describing such assertions as inaccurate and designed to tarnish the reputation of a respected statesman.

She maintained that Okowa's decision to seek election to the Senate was influenced by appeals from various groups, including youths, women, students, traditional rulers, community leaders, non-indigenes, and religious leaders who believe in his capacity to continue serving the people of Delta North.

According to her, the former governor's enduring popularity is rooted in his achievements while in office and the confidence many residents continue to place in his leadership.

She further pointed to the performance of elected officials associated with Okowa's political family as evidence of the continued acceptance of his leadership style and development agenda.

Onyeagbor called on political stakeholders and supporters across Delta State to remain focused on strengthening the state's development efforts rather than engaging in divisive political rhetoric.

She also urged residents to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections, expressing confidence that their collective efforts would contribute to sustained growth and progress across the state.

According to her, the focus should remain on consolidating developmental gains and ensuring that the interests of the people remain at the centre of political engagements in the years ahead.
