GehGeh Says Viral Wedding Was Promotional Stunt, Not Real Marriage
Nigerian content creator Emmanuel Obruste, popularly known as GehGeh, has clarified that the wedding ceremony widely circulated on social media was not genuine but part of a planned promotional campaign.
Videos showing the influencer and a woman dressed in matching burgundy traditional outfits had sparked widespread speculation, with many social media users believing the pair had officially tied the knot.
The footage also attracted criticism from some followers who accused GehGeh of contradicting his previous comments about marriage.
While responding to the backlash shortly after the videos surfaced, the content creator insisted that he had never categorically discouraged people from getting married, although he did not immediately reveal whether the ceremony was authentic.
However, during a later interview with StreamRewind, GehGeh disclosed that the event had been carefully organised as a publicity campaign and social experiment designed to gauge public reaction.
According to him, the exercise was also intended to address what he described as widespread misconceptions about his teachings under the platform he calls the GehGeh Wisdom and Knowledge University.
He explained that many people wrongly interpreted his previous remarks as opposition to marriage, whereas his views are more specific.
GehGeh maintained that he does not reject the institution of marriage entirely but personally believes polygamy is a better option than monogamy.
According to him, having multiple wives reduces the likelihood of emotional manipulation by a single partner, adding that he believes such family structures were commonly practised by previous generations.
His comments have generated fresh debate on social media, with supporters and critics expressing differing opinions on his views about relationships, marriage and family life.
