Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi has warned that Nigeria will face a stern challenge when they take on Portugal in an international friendly next week, following the team's 2-2 draw against Poland on Wednesday.
Moffi continued his impressive run of form for the national team by scoring in consecutive matches, having also found the net in Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the Unity Cup final.
The forward gave Nigeria the lead in the 23rd minute against Poland, finishing off an excellent move after being set up by Moses Simon.
The Super Eagles dominated large portions of the encounter but were pegged back shortly before halftime when Nicola Zalewski capitalised on a defensive lapse from a corner kick to restore parity for the hosts.
Nigeria regained their advantage in the second half after being awarded a penalty following a handball inside the box. Paul Onuachu converted from the spot to put the Super Eagles back in front.
However, the visitors were denied victory deep into stoppage time when Przemyslaw Wisniewski struck from long range to secure a dramatic equaliser for Poland.
Despite the disappointing late goal, Moffi expressed satisfaction with the team's overall performance and was pleased to have contributed with another goal.
According to the striker, Nigeria produced a solid display against a quality opponent and can take several positives from the match.
Reflecting on the upcoming fixture against Portugal, Moffi acknowledged the challenge that awaits the Super Eagles, describing the European side as a strong and difficult opponent.
Nigeria will now shift focus to their next international assignment against Portugal on June 10, as preparations continue for future competitive fixtures.
The friendly is expected to provide another valuable test for the Super Eagles against one of Europe’s top footballing nations.
